2 years already?!

It's been two years since I took an early retirement from nursing. Haven't set foot in an ICU since I took Logan in to meet my old co-workers when he was about 4 months old. I fear for the life of my patient the day I do go back.

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is, "Do you miss working?"

I don't miss the rather large diaper changes. You think baby blow outs are bad, just try changing a comatose, bleeding, huge, adult diaper....disaster!

I don't miss working 16 hour shifts, although now I work 24 hours.

I don't miss trying to speak Spanish to my awake patients or family members, now I'm working on interpreting baby languange.

I don't miss having a work schedule, now I just have a schedule to maintain with my kids.

I don't miss feeling like I'm covered in other peoples' bacteria, I prefer my own babies' vomit, food, etc. anytime.

I do miss the money......alot.
I do miss my days off, now I have none.

I do miss my scrubs, so comfy.

I do miss the excitement of the ICU, but I know I would miss my kids more.

If I had scrubs, I think I would be in them almost every day. Hey, nobody else needs to know that you are not actually on your way to/from the hospital!

props to you for staying home! I would do it if we could swing it financially (although part-time is good for me I think). You will never get these years back with your babies, and then you will have the rest of your life to change big nasty adult-sized diapers. Yes, I know, nursing is SO glamorous :>)
