A little celebration for a little boy

Logan doesn't really get the whole birthday thing yet. So I was trying to think of something special for him to do on his birthday. That's when I decided to start the tradition of having lunch with dad on our birthdays. I just dropped my little guy off at work with dad and picked him up an hour later. I'm sure he enjoyed it. I'm not sure how much of a lunch "break" it was for dad. Today we just celebrated Elmo style with my parents, brothers, and sister in law.
It was my first time decorating a cake....I'm just happy it resembles ElmoA new Harley motorcycle was at the top of his list of favorite gifts for the day
Parties over. Tomorrow this little baby goes under the knife. Kyle and I will be off bright and early to get the little surgical procedure done for Nixon.

favorite toys

He's very serious about a cabbage patch doll, elmo, a bronco bear, ernie, and the list goes on for stuffed animals these days Nixon is faithful to a little lion. Just cuddles it up to his face and sucks on his thumb.

He does the same to my hair.....disgusting I know

he's 2

It has been two fast years, with some really long days mixed in between. We love him to pieces and have a lot of fun seeing him grow and change.

Nothing new

I haven't been doing anything too exciting around here lately. So, I thought I would finally pull out some needle and thread and start a little project. I've almost lost all my desire to do anything crafty because I get sick of cleaning up the mess, but I thought this project might be a little easier than a big sewing machine project. I made Logan a quiet book a while back that I hate. We never use it. I need to just throw it away. One of my favorite blogs just posted their homemade quiet book that I love so here are the beginnings to my new one. It's nice because it is all hand stitched/embroidered so I don't have to pull out the sewing machine. None of these are my ideas.....all copied from a very crafty blogging friend! So go ahead and start your kids a quiet book, it is the perfect craft to do while watching TV.

Button on letters so the kids learn how to spell their names. A cute barn whose doors open with finger puppets inside
an aquarium page, all the fish velcro on. They were a pain to sew but are so cute.
A little mailbox, the flag buttons on
The mailbox opens up for letters. I made one for Logan with a velcro on stamp.
I think I have 6 more pages in the works, but since it is a hand sewing project it is coming along pretty slow. Will post them as I finish them in case anyone else needs a quiet project.

family photos

We got some family pictures taken while we were in Idaho this summer.

Kyle's parents with all there grandkids
The whole group

Our little family. Our kids were in meltdown mode. I have a feeling it is just the beginning to us not getting a picture where we are all happy and looking at the camera. Is that a slight grin on Logan's face? Nixon is good with his thumb!
I think we were bribing Logan with chapstick in this picture. He prefers "Chap" over candy

Sadly, this little thumbsucker didn't take many one-on-one shots. I guess this picture is fitting since he never wants to be away from me (I know I should enjoy it while it lasts).

Say, "Chap"

May not look like it, but these two are starting to love each other a little more everyday. Nixon thinks Logan is pretty funny, even with the occasional smack, bite, push, scream, etc. Logan thinks Nixon is more fun now that he can sit up and hold toys. I think they are well on their way to becoming best friends!

2 years already?!

It's been two years since I took an early retirement from nursing. Haven't set foot in an ICU since I took Logan in to meet my old co-workers when he was about 4 months old. I fear for the life of my patient the day I do go back.

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is, "Do you miss working?"

I don't miss the rather large diaper changes. You think baby blow outs are bad, just try changing a comatose, bleeding, huge, adult diaper....disaster!

I don't miss working 16 hour shifts, although now I work 24 hours.

I don't miss trying to speak Spanish to my awake patients or family members, now I'm working on interpreting baby languange.

I don't miss having a work schedule, now I just have a schedule to maintain with my kids.

I don't miss feeling like I'm covered in other peoples' bacteria, I prefer my own babies' vomit, food, etc. anytime.

I do miss the money......alot.
I do miss my days off, now I have none.

I do miss my scrubs, so comfy.

I do miss the excitement of the ICU, but I know I would miss my kids more.

It's been rough

A few months ago we cancelled our cable and internet. Logan's face says it all!! Life without the internet is rough. But, today Verizon came and hooked up our internet so I am back in blogging business. I don't follow all that many blogs, but as of now I have 500 unread entries on my reader, so that shows you just how far behind I am. I'm actually tempted to end my blog, just to prevent the temptation of neglecting my children for it. I did decide when Nixon was born that I wouldn't be on the computer while the kids were awake, and so far I have done a good job at keeping that promise. Still, I'm happy to have a working computer again!!

Vacation

We just got back from spending two weeks in ID where Kyle's parents have a cabin in Island park. We also made our way briefly into Montana, Wyoming, and Utah.

I'm too lazy to write much or rearrange the pictures into some kind of order, but here are a few of the things we did while we were there.

Fun trip, excited to go back this winter!
